Millets are preferable over grains (rice and wheat); brown rice is preferred over polished white rice; whole grain flour is preferred over maida. All vegetables except high quantities of tubers like potato are preferred. Nuts and dry fruit can be taken in moderate quantities. Milk products, poultry, and meats do not impact diabetes control. However, fatty diets increase cholesterol which in combination with diabetes increases cardiovascular risk.
