Abortions are not known to affect fertility if they are carried out with all due precautions. Abortions do carry the risk of uterine infection if carried out in unsterile environments by unskilled people. Uterine infection can spread to fallopian tubes (through which ova enter the uterine cavity) and cause tubal blockage as part of healing response. Blocked fallopian tubes result in infertility as the ova cannot reach the uterus.
