Painkillers are different types. These include paracetamol, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) like ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac etc.,, steroids, and opioids. Paracetamol is considered the most safe drug. However, it can cause liver injury in certain patients. Certain painkillers are harmful when consumed over long periods of time or in large dosages. NSAIDS cause kidney injury, stomach ulcers, rise in blood pressure, fluid and salt retention. Steroids cause weight gain, rise in blood sugar and pressure, decrease in immunity, osteoporosis etc. Opioids are habit forming leading to drug addiction, which has reached epidemic proportions in USA.
