Diet containing high fibre and complex carbohydrates is preferred. Millets are preferable over grains (rice and wheat); brown rice is preferred over polished white rice; whole grain flour is preferred over maida. However, fatty diets increase cholesterol which in combination with diabetes increases cardiovascular risk.
