InOrder President and senior cardiologist Dr Krishna Reddy Nallamalla was among a select few experts to be interviewed by Business World Healthcare World  on the occasion of World Health Day. Dr Reddy was interviewed by Mr Harbinder Narula CEO – BW Healthcare World & BW Wellbeing World on the science of stents. BW Healthcare World is a web-based journal, affiliated to the Indian business magazine Business World, of the media group ABP.

Among the other distinguished experts who were part of the panel were Dr. Devi Shetty of Narayana Health; Dr. Praveen Chandra of Medanta – the Medicity; Dr. T.S. Kler of Fortis Healthcare; Dr. Vanita Arora of Apollo Hospitals; Dr. K. K. Talwar of PSRI Hospital; Dr. Mukesh Batra of Dr. Batra’s Group.

In his interview, Dr Reddy spoke on the use of indigenous stents. Its usage amounts to 80 per cent of stent usage in India. Dr Reddy was at the helm of India’s first coronary stent in collaboration with late Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, the then chief of DRDO, to create an indigenous technology platform for medical devices to make them affordable.

“Indigenous technology stents save a vast amount of national wealth as they are affordable. Promoting public-private participation in healthcare is crucial as government alone cannot fulfil the needs of society. On the other hand, government can address social determinants like education, housing, clean drinking water and preventive care,” Dr Reddy said during the interview.

Till few years back, India was heavily dependent on the imported stents but currently brand India has been gaining credibility amongst the western market, which clearly conveys global acceptance of ‘Make in India’ products.
