The Global Learning Collaborative for Health Systems Resilience, managed by ACCESS Health International, held its first peer-to-peer learning meeting on June 16, 2022. Eminent health systems experts from multiple countries participated to discuss significant themes towards building resilient health systems.
ACCESS Health serves as the global secretariat of the GLC4HSR, with initial support from The Rockefeller Foundation. The GLC4HSR aims to promote cross-learning on the resilience of the health system and its various components among countries. It envisions the co-creation of knowledge and reciprocal learning to develop robust and resilient health systems, to prevent and be prepared for pandemics and other health crises in the future. The GLC4HSR, which was created in the midst of a global pandemic, currently focuses on four key areas of health systems resilience: Resilience of social security networks, improved disease surveillance, design of rapid response systems, and preparedness of health systems.
The said meeting was organized to further strengthen the understanding on health systems resilience, surveillance, and global health architecture. It saw the participation of over 120 health systems researchers and stakeholders from across fifteen countries. The Peer-to-Peer learning structure, as a part of the GLC4HSR learning journey, intends to bring people working in this area together so that they can initiate dialogue amongst themselves and forge collaborative work.
Three sessions naming “Health Systems Resilience Assessment Frameworks”; “Disease Surveillance Systems for Resilience”; “Global Health Architecture and Governance for Resilience” were conducted.
The objectives of P2P learning session were
- To enable cross learning from academia and practitioners
- To strengthen the learnings and lessons across contexts
- To be prepared to identify areas that needs to be focused
- To collaborate for a multi prong, multi stakeholder efforts
The first session was moderated by Mr. Maulik Choksi, Deputy Country Director- Technical at ACCESS Health international. Dr. Irene Papanicolas, Associate Professor of Health Economics in Department of Health Policy, London School of Economics; Ms. Redda Seifeldin, Technical Officer, World Health Organization; Dr Anish TS, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Kerala; Dr. WU Zeng, Associate Professor, Department of International Health, School of Nursing & Health Studies, Georgetown University were the panelists in the first session.
The second session was moderated by Dr. Srikant Kalaskar, Senior Technical Specialist Public Health and Capacity Building, ACCESS Health International. The session focused on effective surveillance that helps in detecting the outbreak. Dr. Mohammad Akhtar Hussain, CMO, Public Health, Australia; Dr. Sudipto Roy, ICMR; Dr. Manjunath Shankar, IPE Global were the panelists in this session. Third session was moderated by Dr S. Tata, Director, Social Development, UNESCAP. Speakers who addressed gathering in the third session were Dr. Krishna Reddy Nallamalla, Country Director at ACCESS Health International; Ms. Preeti Sudan, Former Health Secretary Govt. of India; Dr. Jack Langenbrunner, World Bank, Dr. Sten Vermund, Dean Yale School of Medicine; Dr. Henk Bekedam, WHO.
