ACCESS Health International in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and with support from USAID and USAID NISHTHA JHPIEGO, conducted a three-day Training of Trainer (ToT) Programme on “Data Management and Data Analytics“, from November 22-24, 2022, in New Delhi, India to build the analytical competence of selected healthcare officers of state health departments and USAID funded NISHTHA-JHPIEGO staff.

The program will help the participants manage and analyze the data efficiently at the state and district level, to detect, prevent and respond to any public health emergency locally without losing any time. These torch-bearers from the program are expected to reach the last mile and strengthen the surveillance system, data management, and analytics skills of the colleagues from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) being implemented in India.

The program witnessed participation from Maharashtra and six North Eastern states of India namely Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. In addition, 1200 healthcare providers will be trained in 10 online batches from these seven states subsequently as part of the project in the coming months. Master trainers from the ToT batch are expected to handhold and support the participants on the ground for learning.

This project of developing a training package and training health providers on data management and analytics is co-directed by Dr. Shrikant Kalaskar, Senior Technical Specialist, ACCESS Health and Dr. Saswat Kumar Mishra, Assistant Professor, Administrative Staff College of India. Dr. Chilshu Chandran and Mausumi Daimari from ACCESS Health have coordinated the activities of the training program. Feedback received from the training participants is encouraging towards content, coordination, and delivery of the program.
