Why Fungal Diseases Are an Increasing Threat

The world has seen a recent rise in the incidence of fungal diseases. This may be because of the fungi’s improved adaptability to warmer temperatures and resistance to drugs. In this expert interview Prof Arturo Casadevall, MD, PhD says that we can expect fungi to become more successful in surviving and reproducing in our bodies. He explains why we need to take a more serious approach to fungi and begin developing antifungal vaccines and treatments now.

WASH services and health: syntheses and contexts

The association between adequate water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services and health has long been established. And yet gaps persist in the policy and research agenda. The articles looks at the important contribution of WASH to health and non-health benefits and at the sound justifications for prioritising WASH interventions for improved health outcomes. It talks about the need to understand how WASH influences health outcomes and how this could support more appropriate interventions aiming to maximise health impacts.

Decolonizing global health: what should be the target of this movement and where does it lead us?

The decolonizing global health movement will not succeed without the decolonization of the world’s political economy. This article summarizes the main points of discussion from the Symposium organized by the editorial board of Global Health Research and Policy, convened in July 2021 in Wuhan, China. Experts participating in the symposium discussed what decolonizing global health means, how to decolonize it, and what criteria to apply in measuring its completion.
