A broader vision for women’s health

Editorial published in The Lancet

The 2023 Women Deliver Conference highlighted urgent global gender equality needs, citing setbacks in women’s rights, geopolitical tensions, and post-COVID challenges. Outdated focus on reproductive health limits understanding of broader women’s health needs. Disease causes in women, due to sex-specific factors, remain poorly understood. Data scarcity and fragmented initiatives hinder addressing health disparities. To advance women’s health comprehensively, updated research and indicators are needed to encompass diverse drivers of gender inequality.

Longitudinal Ageing Study (LASI): A National Landmark for Understanding India’s Ageing Population

Editorial published in International Journal of Health Systems and Implementation Research

With India’s aging population, health issues among adults are rising. The Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI) plays a pivotal role in enhancing comprehension of this matter. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) established LASI to facilitate research and policymaking related to aging in India. Longitudinal data from LASI will support national and sub-national studies on demographics, health, economics of aging, and more. This study identifies challenges older individuals encounter, spanning physical, emotional, economic, and social realms. It will aid in problem-solving and devising strategies to alleviate these issues among senior citizens.

From trials to communities: implementation and scale-up of health behaviour interventions

Research published in BMC Health Research Policy and Systems This study aimed to understand the frequency, adaptations, and scale-up of health behavior interventions implemented in communities. Researchers surveyed authors of trials assessing preventive health behavior interventions. About half of interventions were implemented after trial completion, often with adaptations, and only 33% were scaled up. Trial characteristics didn’t significantly influence scale-up, but employing more research dissemination strategies increased the likelihood of scaling up. The study highlights the need for improved implementation and scaling strategies for health behavior interventions.
